Maintaining Ground Cover in Mixed Farming Systems

Completed: December 2015
Funding organisation: Mallee Catchment Management Authority

This project was designed to quantify livestock (sheep) grazing habits in large Mallee paddocks with variable soil types. It aims to determine the factors that may influence livestock grazing habits such as feed quantity, feed quality and landscape topography. The project sought to better understand the impact of stocking pressure on groundcover levels within the paddock to provide local farmers with more robust guidelines for maintaining groundcover above critical levels.
