MSF Announces Opening of New Agricultural Award
Mallee Sustainable Farming Inc (MSF) has proudly created the “David Roget Mallee Sustainable Farming Excellence Award” to remember and celebrate the significant contributions made by the late David Roget.
Mr Hastings, Chair of MSF, said that to honour the great achievements of David’s work, MSF is proud to announce the opening of applications for the Inaugural Award for 2015. The Award will be presented to an individual, business or group who has made a significant contribution to dryland farming production systems in the MSF region.
David Roget contributed more than 30 years of service to agricultural research, initially in the field of soil borne plant pathology and later on biological disease suppression and farming systems research with many of these years spent in the CSIRO.
“The impact of David’s work on farming systems in the Mallee across Victoria, SA and NSW is evident. David can be described as the growers’ friend and was the ultimate collaborator who could unite growers and researchers.” Mr Hastings said.
In 1997 David Roget and a number of significant Mallee growers developed an initiative to encourage the uptake of no-till farming and continuous cropping in the Mallee. Thus Mallee Sustainable Farming (MSF) Project was formed and David was an Advisor until his retirement from the CSIRO.
Today, MSF continues to promote and apply David’s guidelines for optimising performance by matching inputs to crop requirements, soil capacity and seasonal opportunities.
“I would encourage applications from those who believe that they have contributed to the agricultural scene in the Mallee. Applications close on 30 January 2015 and the winner will be announced at the MSF Research Development & Extension Forum in February 2015.” said Mr Hastings.
