There is a need for Mallee farmers to be diverse in their farming enterprises, through multiple commodity enterprises but high level land management through improved knowledge will assist in long term sustainability. As requested by Mallee farmers, this project built on Mallee farmers’ knowledge of managing their pastures and crop stubble to ensure that adequate ground cover is maintained to retain soil health and to maximise livestock production. Based on the recent Grain and Graze 2 project, farmers learnt to effectively use rotational grazing systems relevant to their area. Farmers were assisted to make effective management decisions to maintain economically viable and environmentally sustainable farming practices.
